IYB2010

The UN has declared 2010 an international celebration of life on earth and of the value of biodiversity for our lives. It has invited the world to take action this year to safeguard the variety of life on earth, something that Biosphere Expeditions has been doing for the last 10 years.

“We are delighted to be working in partnership with the UN to increase the public awareness of the importance of conserving our planet’s biological diversity,” said Biosphere Expeditions director, Kathy Wilden.

“For the last decade Biosphere Expeditions has provided continuous support to critical wildlife conservation and research projects around the world. We make it possible for ordinary people, in their holiday time, to work with scientists at the forefront of conservation, helping to protect endangered species and habitats around the world.”

“This year we offer people an opportunity to assist scientists conducting research on snow leopards in Central Asia, and big cats in Africa and South America, tracking wolf and lynx in Slovakia, studying whales and dolphins in the Azores, and preserving coral reefs in Honduras and Oman.

“We offer people the chance to make a difference by making a positive impact on local communities, wildlife and the environment. We hope that this UN Year of Biodiversity will help to inspire people about conservation so that they come and do some hands-on work with organisations like ours and continue their work when they return home, inspiring others to make a difference too”.
