Can you cater for special dietary needs?
The food we provide varies from country to country and we aim to provide as much locally purchased fresh food as possible. There will usually be a local cook who has experience in catering for western groups. Vegetarians and other special diets can be catered for, but check our website and/or the briefings for the kind of special diets we can provide, or
contact us for more details.
Can you cater for single people travelling by themselves?
Yes, of course, no problem. There will be some people arriving in pairs or even larger groups, but most of our team members arrive by themselves. Once you have made it to the assembly point you will be part of a small team, united by a common goal.
What does a typical day look like and will I have time off?
A short description of a typical day is part of every summary on our website. And of course you will have some time off - it's not just about work! Time off is built in for recuperation and/or to give you the chance to visit some local sights and attractions.
What do I need to bring?
Once you have joined up, you will receive a detailed “welcome pack” with a full list of the personal equipment you need to bring (and things you should leave at home!). Everything else will be provided.
Do I need travel insurance?
If you are joining a 2-week expedition or a 1-week project, then yes, you do. We make it compulsory that each team member holds a suitable travel insurance policy, which covers them fully for the activities detailed in the briefing, and provides cover for emergency medical repatriation. You should pay special attention to the fact that your policy covers you for adventurous activities and/or light manual work. See www.biosphere-expeditions.org/supportingbiosphere for some insurance companies that we recommend.
