Expo

Biosphere Expeditions will be at the Overland Expo, 16 - 18 April 2010, Santa Cruz Valley, Arizona (30 miles south of Tucson, Arizona).

Outreach drinks reception

Outreach drinks receptions are very informal events usually hosted by an expedition veteran. Everyone’s invited to just turn up and we try to involve Biosphere Expeditions staff too wherever possible.

Drinks receptions are for people who have never been involved with Biosphere Expeditions and would just like to find out more in an informal setting. They are also for former expedition team members who would like to catch up again, or for those already signed up for an expedition who would like to get some tips before they embark on their adventure.

They are always held in a venue where you can chat in a relaxed and quiet atmosphere, i.e. no noisy bars Laughing

Talk

TALK by Erin McCloskey
North American Operations Manager for Biosphere Expeditions

When? April 16th, 2009, 7 p.m.

Where? REI Santa Monica, 402 Santa Monica Blvd., Santa Monica, CA 90401. Map.

Wildlife conservation has often been perceived as something undertaken by renegade adventurists, off in the jungles of Brazil or the wilds of Africa fighting against all odds, or by lonely scientists whiling away solitary field seasons of observation in hopes of telling the world of what they saw through academic papers. The public was left to read about these issues from their distant armchairs and perhaps write a check at Christmas to their preferred organization in return for a stuffed toy or a bumper sticker. This should no longer been seen as the case. People with no scientific training or experience in field techniques can join an expedition and be an integral part of field research in wildlife conservation. Biosphere Expeditions is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is joining forces between scientists and the public as well as bringing in corporate and private sponsors to make much needed conservation research happen.

Kathy Wilden, Director, who will be visiting from the UK headquarters, and Erin McCloskey, North American Operations Manager for Biosphere Expeditions, will be speaking at the REI store Santa Monica gallery on April 16th, 2009, about voluntourism, the work being done around the world and how you can be a part of it.

Come to the REI store Santa Monica to take in this presentation. Make wildlife conservation a part of your year and perhaps find yourself on an expedition in 2009!
